Trump’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Pick Reveals his Thoughts on Social Security

Rep. Mick Mulvaney, R-S.C., appeared before the United States Senate Committee on the Budget January 24 to explain – should he be confirmed as the director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) – how he will modify programs that guarantee Social Security benefits.

In his statement, Mulvaney said that the OMB has failed to manage entitlements and regulations. He emphasized the significance of updating entitlement programs for the sake of preserving them. He mentioned that he would not support cuts to Social Security benefits for the elderly.

If changes are not made in the Social Security program, Mulvaney warned that many individuals will not be able to secure all of its benefits.

About Mick Mulvaney

In December 2016, Donald Trump, then-President-elect, revealed Mulvaney as his selection to run the OMB.

Mulvaney is a United States politician who, since 2011, has served as a U.S. Representative for South Carolina. He is a member of the Republican Party. He formerly served as a member of the South Carolina Senate.

Mulvaney’s nomination as Director-designate will be evaluated in hearings held by the United States Senate Committee on the Budget and the United States Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs. The full Senate will vote on his confirmation at a later date.
